今日、CNN Money.comのVCに関する記事を読んでいたら、Sand Hill Roadの意味がどうしても分からなかった。
His new company, FirstRound, makes relatively small commitments to entrepreneurs with big ideas - usually in the $250,000 to $750,000 range, which is generally too small and risky for Sand Hill Road - and sticks with them long enough to determine which business plans will work and which should be taken out back and shot.
調べてみたら、Sillicon ValleyのTop Tier VCが集まるところっていう隠語なのね。。SequoiaやらKleinerやら老舗のTop VCが軒を連ねている通りとのこと。アメリカのバックグラウンドが無いから、記事一つ読むにしてもこういった単語一つ一つ調べるから結構時間がかかったりする。でもこういった発見はちょっと視点が上がったような、あるいはステップ一つあがったような感じがしてちょっと嬉しくなる。
でも考えてみれば、「毎晩、六本木で遊ぶ」、「毎年、元旦に靖国神社に参拝に行く」と言った場合、その場所が、その人のパーソナリティーなり信条を暗に表したりして、それは全ての言語に共通するんだね。
